Article Marketing 101

Article marketing is writing several different articles on topics related to your website’s products, services, or industry. These articles are given to other people to be freely published on their websites, RSS feeds, or email newsletters. It can also involve posting content on other people’s websites.

"The idea is that different websites, who share similar interests or work in the same fields, provide something of value for free to each other."

Each article written in the interest of article marketing ends with a resource box, also called a bio box that contains some information about the article owners product or service. This also includes a link back to the article owner’s website. So if that were your link, readers who come upon your article in someone else’s website can click through to your site to find out more about your site, products and services. This will lead to increased website traffic, and potentially, sales even.

So how do you make the most out of article marketing?

Here are some tips to help you write successful articles and increase their chances of publication:

* First thing to consider is to find a good topic. You may want to employ keyword research to find topics to write about. This will help ensure that your topic will meet its target audience’s interests. Include these keywords and keyword phrases into the body of your article and most importantly, in the headline.

* Applying SEO best practices will help increase the chances of your article getting picked up by search engines when used with your target keywords.

* Keep your articles short and concise. You need to make properly worded and structured articles that contain all the relevant details the reader needs to know.

* Stick to your target market niche. You will want to write articles that have a specific target demographic that you want to attract to your site. Articles on specific niche topics are also more likely to get published in websites with similar interests.

* Write about your area of expertise or find writers suited to your chosen topics. Not only will it be easier for you to write because of familiarity with the subject, you’ll be able to think of more ideas and your article will be better as a result.

* Meet your target audience’s core needs. They’re in search of something and it is your job to write articles that will identify what these needs are and how you will be able to answer them.

* Make sure to proof-read your articles. Good writing quality must always be maintained, a well-written article that’s free of spelling or grammatical errors will be more popular than a poorly-written one. This step can be easily overlooked especially when writing several articles.

* Be consistent with your writing. Practice often and always strive for improvement.

* Even if the target of the article is to “sell” your website, it is important to keep from selling from within the article itself. Instead, aim to sell the value of your article to your readers by providing useful and relevant content. They’ll keep reading if you keep their interests piqued.

Article marketing does not stop after writing one good article. As soon as new ideas, concepts, and interests come up, new articles can and should be written about them. Providing fresh, interesting, and helpful content will keep readers and visitors coming back for more.
